She is the one wearing the blue and white dress with the white headway where I am the one in the blue and red headway Raw vulnerability, exquisite poise, and wide emotional range are some words used to describe Aishé Keita on stage. Aishé is an award winning actress based in Seattle, WA but has been seen on stages throughout the states. Credits include: Fat Ham (Seattle Repertory Theatre ) , The Boy Who Kisses the Sky ( S.C.T / Alliance) Familiar (Guthrie Theater) , School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play (Arkansas Rep, Jungle Theatre) and I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings (Book-It) to name a few. Aishé has been working with youth telling stories and teaching for over 10 year. Her father told her stories growing up of their Malian traditions . This began her passion for traditional storytelling .Storytelling has the power to unit a community through its wisdom, joy and creativity and It brings forth the best of our ancestral ways.

Sadiqua Iman is a multidisciplinary artists that uses her formal musical theater training from University of Florida and New World School of the Arts paired with the words of wisdom gifted to her by her father and yoga teacher of over 20 years. In 2020 Sadiqua directed August Wilson’s Gem of the Ocean at the Chattanooga Theatre Center and completed her MFA in Arts Leadership from Seattle University. Her latest performance project is“Momentum of the Muse,” is a multi- part dance film exploring and engaging with black art in Seattle, Washington. It has been featured at WaNaWari, Arte Noir, Frye Art Museum,Vivid Matter Collective, and Gallery Eros.

This program allows people to express how they are feeling — what type of life they have lived — growing up in their neighborhood, etc. Doing that without being judged or labeled is a very difficult thing to do. There are very few places that someone could do that, and this program gives everyone the option if they so choose.

We were able to take knowledge we already had and put it to something positive. After our performance we were asked to write a testimony about ourselves. That was the best part of this program, because after you take away all the crying and laughing, you were left with the most amazing stories you will ever hear. For the first time since I have gotten in trouble, I was able to tell my story. People heard my voice and listen to what I had to say. It was an opportunity I don’t think other inmates have.

Not only did I truly enjoy the experience, but it was incredibly formative for me, and it is still something I think about often months later. From writing and improvisation exercises, to intense discussions, to writing, producing, and acting in a play, this program has taught me a lot about myself and what I am capable of. In addition, the testimony to follow allowed me, or actually forced me, to really confront what has been on my mind lately.
